Thinking about shooting weddings? Here are some things I've learned that may be helpful to you. These may or may not apply to you and your business, so take what works and leave the rest.

  1. Be up front with your packages, make it easy to decide if you're the right photographer for the couple.
  2. Having a base wedding fee and then everything else is a la carte may make people feel like they're being nickel and dimed to death.
  3. Session fees include client credits for products. Make sure your pricing is appropriate to the packages so you cover your costs.
  4. Include a wedding album with design and retouch for up to 200 images. Give them those digitals for sharing on socials.
  5. Be overly responsive via telephone.
  6. Use Gmail templates for your emails. Information and templates here

Pricing

  • Package pricing includes all parts of the process
  • Perceived value - be sure to price yourself high enough
  • Price higher, work less and make more money
  • Be transparent on pricing, put it all out there
  • What lifestyle do you want to live? Build your photog life out from there

Paradox of Choice

  • Too many choices may paralyze people from being able to make choices
  • List 3 options - most people will choose the middle option
  • Offer special custom pricing in case your packages don't "fit" what people are looking for
  • Offer particular size packages and have them ask if they want/need more options

Selling Art

  • Start with 11"x14" - that's art
  • Target market is word of mouth, wedding coordinators, hotels, catering directors. Take them to lunch and bring your portfolio with you.
  • Destination photography market
  • Associate photographer pricing (smaller venues/weddings)
  • Team of Photographers - I'm sure one of us is available

Pricing

  • Prices are good for one year
  • Encourage couples to select their 200 images before prices go up
  • Online gallery and online storage (I use Zenfolio - try it with a 10% discount )
  • Blogging gets the search engines looking at your website - blog posts are easy to share
  • Instagram lets you share images and could generate lots of leads

Hope you find something helpful in this post. If there's a topic you would like to see covered, let me know!
